My model year model x has a poorly designed horn function on the steering wheel. In several instances, i try to push the middle of the wheel out of habit and reaction, but there’s no mechanical push horn! Tesla installed a small tiny non-tactile horn button off to the side. It’s easily missed and you need to find a small pinky sized area to push. This is unsafe. So much so, that the 2024 and newer tesla have an actual horn function in the middle of the wheel like every other car. Please make tesla retrofit these horn function to the newer type which is much safer!
Vehicle not paying attention, nearly swerved into my vehicle and in the moment, unable to find the horn button. Instinctively went for center of wheel but there is nothing here - have to search for small button on right
The rear camera failed as i tried to reverse into a parking spot. The whole system froze up and took over 20+ second to finally load happened twice in one day
2023 model x is not equiped with a center steering wheel horn, instead a small button on the right of steering wheel which is nowhere to be found when you need in an emergency, i almost got in to 3 accidents for lack of horn. Tesla must replace these for traditional horn button
While driving on city streets at very low speeds, error messages starting popping up on the screen "vehicle may not restart/service is required". We somehow made it home by restarting the computer and driving home at low speeds. At freeway speeds, this would have been catastrophic. We were able to make an appointment with the tesla service center and found this to be due to the battery coolant heater to be internally shorted which in turn was because the large rear drive unit had an internal coolant leak. This required a very expensive $8k replacement of the large rear drive unit and the heater. A search in the blogs has yielded this to be a design and manufacturing issue. Specifically the blogs say: "the rear motor used in the early teslas has a design flaw and will need a very expensive repair/replacement but what does that actually mean? Many model s and model x produced between 2012-2020 have the large drive unit (ldu) with the fatal coolant seal flaw where the seal around the rotor shaft will leak coolant into the motor (reference 1). They will all leak eventually. Tesla tried many things over the years to keep this seal from leaking but finally gave up and developed ‘revision u’ in the fall of 2022 which deletes the coolant from the rotor but maintains the coolant to the inverter, stator and the ‘flyover’ tube cooling the gearbox". This means that the same problem even after the replacement, will happen again soon. I am writing to request you to send out a recall to all owners of these cars, and to have tesla refund us for the cost of replacement of the drive unit and for tesla to install the bypass as some aftermarket vendors (reference 2) have started doing. Horn button is a safety issue. 2023 teslax is dangerous without a center horn. Went into a ditch to avoid an errant truck because i looked down to find the tiny button. Blinker buttons are completely ineffective when making a turn, major safety issue. Need a stalk for blinkers.
The button horn on the side of steering wheel is unsafe in emergency situations. Searching for a button on the steering wheel is dangerous because you only have a split second to alert others. The button horn for the newer models of the same vehicles have a horn in the center for safety reasons. Therefore a recall should be implemented for the manufacturer to retrofit the models that was released with the button horn on the side of the steering wheel.
There is a leaking glue like substance coming from the infotainment system that controls all safety components of the vehicle which can cause a safety hazard as well as health and enviormental concerns.
1. Passenger (next to driver) side no-belt warning is not working. Seat belt warning is not shown even when the passenger (adult) does not wear belt. It is consistently reproducible even when the vehicle is at highway speeds. 2. Passenger side airbag is always off even when there is a passenger seated with their seat belt on. I purchased this vehicle in april'2024 and have been consistently having sensor issues. I took the vehicle to a tesla service center but they did not do repairs. The seat belt and passenger side airbag issue has started very recently. We noticed it 2-3 days back and have reported it to tesla customer service center via chat message in tesla app but they have not responded. I called tesla emergency road number and reported the same but they were not able to help. Hence i am reporting to nhtsa as a last resort to see if the major security issue can be fixed.
On oct 2, 2024 while going to school to pick the kids, when my wife was turning right into a parking lot after slowing, my tesla model x plaid car acceralated and went into high speed (plaid mode) hitting a tree at top speed even though brakes were applied. Upon research, this looks like sudden unintended accerelation. The car luckily hit the tree on the passenger side and the front right wheel flew to the back seat and all air bags were deployed. The car was totaled. Miracleously, she had minor external injuries but due to the speed of impact with the tree, she was flung forward and after the ct scan, we found that she had vad with severe damage to both her neck arteries. She was taken to hospital in an ambulance, had a surgery and still has trauma and medical appointments to fully recover. In mar 2024, there was always a software problem with my car failing to detect the car was open and hit the garage roof with the falcon wing. On another occasion, the car failed to detect my other car when it was too close to it and i had to apply the brakes although the car was to stop automatically. Tesla refused to treat this as warranty even though the car should not move when doors are open. After 6 months, i ended up fixing the car at a tesla collision centre. After multiple follow ups via email, chats on tesla app and phone calls post the accident on oct 2, 2024 with tesla pleading with them to provide the edr report and address the issue as warranty and not hearing back, i am logging this so that customers are aware of this dangerous flaw that can be fatal. It looks like tesla wants to delay the case for long so that they can force the customer to accept a low settlement. I was also planning to buy a cyberbeast but not going to anymore.
