2022 Mazda CX-5
  • Date of Incident: Dec-26, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Dec-26, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE and FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Mazda’s cx-5 engines, particularly in earlier models, have been known to experience issues with hydraulic lash adjusters (hlas), which are responsible for maintaining proper valve clearance. Many owners have reported a persistent tapping or ticking noise, especially during cold starts. This issue is often caused by air bubbles or insufficient oil supply to the hlas, and cold weather exacerbates the problem as thicker oil struggles to circulate until the engine warms up. The hlas have also faced criticism for their sensitivity to oil pressure and quality, making them prone to failure in less-than-ideal conditions. Mazda claims that replacements and redesigns have resolved these issues in newer engine models and has not issued any technical service bulletins (tsbs) for models after 2021. However, i experienced the hla “ticking” noise in my 2022 cx-5, suggesting the issue has not been fully addressed. I am concerned about the longevity of these parts and potential repair costs in the future, as mazda seems to be dismissing the problem. I have a video capturing the noise but cannot attach it to this form. If interested, please contact me, and i can provide the video. Additionally, there are countless videos of similar issues shared on the cx-5 subreddit, which can be found by searching “clicking” at the following link: https://www. Reddit. Com/r/cx5/search/? 2024 Mazda CX-90
  • Date of Incident: Dec-07, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Dec-25, 2024
  • Failed components: POWER TRAIN

Dear ntha, i am writing to formally raise a safety concern regarding my mazda cx-90 turbo s premium plus, which i purchased and currently have approximately 25,078 miles on. This vehicle is equipped with a mild hybrid 48v battery, which is not a full high-voltage battery. The vehicle has been at the dealer since december 9th for ongoing issues. On december 7th, i began experiencing multiple malfunctions, including the mild hybrid system malfunction, engine malfunction, and istop malfunction (with the istop malfunction indicator blinking). This is a serious safety concern. I was extremely worried that the vehicle could stall, especially while driving on a busy highway at high speeds. Both myself and my family felt fearful while driving the car. I believe this issue presents a significant risk to the safety of drivers and passengers. I am requesting your assistance in initiating an official recall from the manufacturer for this component failure. Based on my research, i am not the only one experiencing these issues—many others have reported similar problems on forums like reddit, which suggests that this could be a widespread issue. Additionally, mazda offers a 6-year/60,000-mile warranty on this hybrid battery. If the component fails after this period, the cost to replace it could reach $6,000, with the customer being responsible for a large portion of the expense. This is concerning, especially considering that if this part fails after 30,000 miles, the customer may be expected to bear up to 70% of the cost. It is frustrating to see such issues with a vehicle sold in the u. S. , and i feel that companies should be held accountable for offering subpar products. For comparison, bmw offers a 100,000-mile warranty on similar components. I hope you will take immediate action to address this issue and help ensure that affected vehicles are recalled for repair or replacement. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

The touchscreen for the infotainment area is ghost touching and changing information. This turn off information like lane change assist changes the volume of the blinker as well as randomly calls people. This is highly disruptive and distracting while driving. There has been many instances when i have had to pull off the road to try to avoid major issues because of this. When it is selecting things it’s self i am not able to use the touch screen at all. It is also selecting things when i am driving over 5mph when the screen is not supposed to be engaged at all.

2022 Mazda CX-5
  • Date of Incident: Dec-23, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Dec-23, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

The engine on my 2022 naturally aspirated mazda cx5, is making a loud ticking noise when cold started. The vehicle is in pristine condition and is services regularly at the dealer with only 33,000 miles. The ticking noise is a known issue for this make and model, where mazda has issued a tsb for faulty hydraulic valve lash. This is a distinct noise that is sharp and metallic and distracting when driving the vehicle, even after a period of time. I can hear it through my radio and it does not sound good. Evidently 2022 is not part of the tsb, yet my vehicle is still affected by this noise. Filing a complaint with nhtsa to formalize this record.

2017 Mazda MAZDA3
  • Date of Incident: Dec-22, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Dec-22, 2024
  • Failed components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The infotainment system is malfunctioning. It constantly restarts/reboots while i am driving and it is highly distracting. I contacted mazda usa about this, but they responded by saying there are not active recalls for this car and the car isn't under warranty. I took it to a dealership and they quoted me $1450 for repairs. However, a problem such as this should not be occuring for a car that isn't too old. It is highly distracting and it is endagering me while i am driving, putting my and drivers on the roads' safety at risk. Mazda should fix this issue and pay for all repairs in full.

The i-activesense system malfunction. The brake system malfunction. Now i am receiving a critical vehicle malfunction alert. 1. Gear shift issue in ev mode: the transition from 1st to 2nd gear is not shifting properly in ev mode. At times, the gear jerks during critical situations, which compromises control. 2. Power output on highway: while driving on the highway, there are instances where there is no power output when flooring the accelerator to overtake. 3. Engine malfunction light: the engine malfunction light has come on and off three times. 4. Radar malfunction: the radar system is intermittently not working or working improperly. The radar malfunction light also came on and off once (i-activsense system malfunction). The last safety recall was completed a few weeks ago, but the issues are still ongoing. Since then, i have visited the mazda dealership twice, but they let me go, dismissing my claims and saying they couldn’t duplicate the problems. I have a case with mazda corporation. Nothing done yet (case number: 00261154). The name of the representative is candy. I would appreciate it if you could investigate these issues at the earliest convenience. Thank you for your attention to these matters.
