2020 Kia Sorento
  • Date of Incident: Nov-19, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-24, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

On 11/19/2024 i was driving when my kia begin to sputter and lose power, and the check engine light came on. I was on an interstate so i exited and pulled over, after paying 400. 00 in tow fees it was determined my engine had failed with only 126,291 miles. I never had any indication of problems with my engine it happened in the blink of an eye

2024 Kia EV9
  • Date of Incident: Nov-23, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-24, 2024
  • Failed components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER and ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Our kia ev9, which has had the software update installed to address nhtsa recall number 24v757 (kia safety recall sc326) has again had the driver's instrument panel screen come up blank when the car was started. This is identical to behavior we observed multiple times before taking the car to the dealership for the software update. To resolve the issue, the car was turned off and permitted to sit for an hour before we attempted to start it again and the problem was no longer present.

2016 Kia Sedona
  • Date of Incident: Nov-24, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-24, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

Description of Incident: What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine of my 2016 Kia Sedona seized due to a lack of oil. The oil pressure warning light, which is designed to alert the driver to low oil pressure or oil-related issues, did not illuminate to indicate any problem. The engine is still available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While the engine seizure did not occur while driving, it created a potential hazard for future operation of the vehicle. Had the issue occurred during the 20-mile drive home or on future trips, it could have led to a sudden loss of power, putting the driver, passengers, and others on the road at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The Kia dealership confirmed that the engine seized due to a lack of oil. However, they have not provided a detailed diagnostic report or explanation for why the oil pressure warning light failed to illuminate. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by Kia but has not been examined by third parties such as insurance representatives or law enforcement. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure. The oil pressure warning light, which should have alerted us to the issue, did not illuminate at any point. Best assessment: My assessment is that the oil pressure warning system failed to function as designed, leading to the engine seizing without warning. This malfunction prevented us from addressing the oil issue in time to avoid catastrophic engine damage.

2025 Kia TELLURIDE
  • Date of Incident: Nov-21, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-23, 2024
  • Failed components: VISIBILITY/WIPER

My 2025 kia teulluride that i bought on 10/21/2024 was sitting in my garage over night on 11/20/2024. The next morning 11/21/2024 i went to leave for work and notice a huge crack in the windshield. Goes from the driver side to about half way to the middle of the windshield

2017 Kia FORTE
  • Date of Incident: Nov-23, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-23, 2024
  • Failed components: SERVICE BRAKES, UNKNOWN OR OTHER, and VISIBILITY/WIPER

On november 23, 2024, the brakes gave out on my 2017 kia forte5 ex. I found several recalls for my car regarding the brakes, trunk, engine and airbags. However, my son was in an accident and i was unaware of any recalls, as the car was purchased used. Would i still be able to get my car repaired under these recalls, or do i need to contact kia?

2017 Kia SPORTAGE
  • Date of Incident: Nov-08, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-23, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE and UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On november 8, 2024 a large oil leak was noticed where the kia sportage had been parked. When the oil was checked it was empty. There had been no warning lights prior to this occurring and i have always provided maintenance to this vehicle. The car was towed by aaa to a local kia dealership the next day. Their technician found "leaking severe due to oil pressure switch shooting oil through the main wiring harness and to the injector harness". The repair cost was estimated at $6,148. 94. I was told that my warranty would not cover this expense even though i have only 70,875 miles. I have not received a notice from kia indicating a recall or advising that i will receive extended warranty coverage. Research has shown that many kia vehicles and others have had this same oil pressure switch problem. This malfunction is extremely dangerous since i drive often on interstate highways and could have been involved in a major breakdown with possible accident. Kia needs to pay for this repair.

2022 Kia Sorento
  • Date of Incident: Nov-22, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-23, 2024
  • Failed components: POWER TRAIN

I have had this happen 4 times now with my Sorento hybrid where the gas engine does engage with the drivetrain, leaving only the electric motor providing power. All incidents have occurred where I was sitting idle with the vehicle on. All incidents occurred when I had the vehicle in ECO mode. 2 of the 4 incidents have warnings about pulling over immediately because the hybrid battery was nearly depleted. The only resolution I've had is to pull over or come to a complete stop on the highway and restart my vehicle. Afterwards, the vehicle runs normally. I have not brought this up with a Kia dealer due to others I've discussed with saying Kia does not know what is happening. The circumstances that replicate this problem are probably difficult to recreate.

2016 Kia Sorento
  • Date of Incident: Sep-19, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-23, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE

There is a problem with the engine in my kia. I believe that this is a similar problem to other recalled kia vehicles from the same production year, 2016, that caused metal to be present in the engine. My local kia dealership informed me that i need a new engine due to this issue, after other issues had been ruled out as the cause of continued check engine light warnings were fixed.

2012 Kia SOUL
  • Date of Incident: Nov-22, 2024
  • Date complaint filed: Nov-22, 2024
  • Failed components: ENGINE and FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Took care in for recall sc176 and was told by taylor kia in lima, oh that what was happ wasn't throwing a code. Said they fixed the knock sensor and that if it is that problem it would go off and they could check it again. My car ran worse than before getting it back. What is happening to my engine is exactly what is detailed in the recall. I drove home 35 minutes shacking and knocking the whole time and no engine light? You can hear the rod knocking in my engine. Exactly how it is explained in the recall. So, now i'm stuck with an engine that going to be ruined when the rod does flys out. Hopefully not harming me or anyone else. This is ludicrous and poor work done.
