On november 8, 2024 a large oil leak was noticed where the kia sportage had been parked. When the oil was checked it was empty. There had been no warning lights prior to this occurring and i have always provided maintenance to this vehicle. The car was towed by aaa to a local kia dealership the next day. Their technician found "leaking severe due to oil pressure switch shooting oil through the main wiring harness and to the injector harness". The repair cost was estimated at $6,148. 94. I was told that my warranty would not cover this expense even though i have only 70,875 miles. I have not received a notice from kia indicating a recall or advising that i will receive extended warranty coverage. Research has shown that many kia vehicles and others have had this same oil pressure switch problem. This malfunction is extremely dangerous since i drive often on interstate highways and could have been involved in a major breakdown with possible accident. Kia needs to pay for this repair.

The contact owned a 2018 kia sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he observed black smoke billowing from the engine compartment, after which the vehicle lost motive power, prompting him and his wife to evacuate the vehicle in the middle of the roadway. While attempting to retrieve important belongings from the vehicle, the contact stated that he heard what sounded to be an explosion within the engine compartment, causing him to fall backward and sprain his ankle. Moments later the front end of the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. Local emergency services arrived and were able to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and needed a total loss by the contacts insurance provider. A fire report was filed. A police report was filed, but no injuries were reported. The contact later transported himself to an appointment with his primary care physician after experiencing physiological symptoms consistent with a cardiovascular event and was treated for angina. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 21v137000 (service brakes, hydraulic); the vin was included, but the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was informed that the manufacturer intended to inspect the vehicle but stated that the inspection had yet to take place. The failure mileage was 55,000.

The digital instrument cluster panel goes blank intermittently and without warning while i am driving. Within moments, the instrument panel reads: "system reset". The information then reappears on the panel, displaying important information (speedometer, fuel gauge, etc. ). My speed, however has been significantly reduced. I was driving on the highway at 70 mph when the instrument panel shut down (went blank). When it reappeared after "system reset", i was going 48 mph. I believe this is a safety issue as it fails to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standards 101 "controls and displays and 138, "tire pressure monitoring systems". Also, the car is dangerous as i have no control over my speed. I could easily get rear ended by another vehicle which is another safety issue because the lithium batteries in this hybrid plug-in are in the back of the vehicle. This has occurred four times. The 2023 kia sportage plug-in vehicles were recalled due to this same problem. I am requesting the 2024 kia sportage plug-in vehicles are issued a recall also.

Check awd / 4wd error message while driving. Codes clear once vehicle is turned off. Dealership won't help unless they see error message. Error message only appears while driving. Potential drive train lockup issue.
