At 65 mph or higher ( highway speed), i hear the constant troubling noise coming from the front of the vehicle. I had taken the car to the dealership in fallston, harford county, maryland, for inspection twice. The mechanic acknowledged hearing the same noise but could not diagnose any problem with the vehicle. The same mechanic drove another 2025 honda pilot and was able to replicate the same noise while driving at highway speeds. Subsequently, i wrote the letter to american honda motor co. , inc outlining the problem and seeking resolution. I was informed there was no open campaigns and to contact nhtsa to file my complain.
My engine has a rod knock and apparently needs replacement. It is at only about 50,000 miles. The technician estimated the repair at $21,911. 47.

I purchased this 2018 Honda Pilot in spring of 2024. Two months after driving it, it started hesistating to restart after idling. At the end of July an emissions warking appeared on the dash and the car would not restart after idling a few times and I would literally have to restart the vehicle by putting it back in park. I took it back to the dealership and they said it was a gas fuel shutter and they repaired that. For a while it still hesitated to restart but it didn't completely shut off until this week week (Nov 2024). This fuel saving feature is a safety defect. It will hesistate to restart when it idles or it won't restart and the red error message to put it in park and restart shows on the dash which is a serious safety concern that I believe Honda knows about that I discovered today is currently in a lawsuit.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - our call has stalled 3 times within a month. I looked online to see what could be the issue. It states there is a recall for a fuel pump issue but i looked online and it is saying our vin isn't effected? I don't see how that would be the case if we are having the issue many others have noted. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - it has stalled while trying to pull out of a parking lot and shuts off. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - not yet. It is random. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - i have an appointment with them in a couple weeks. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - no it has lost propulsion while we have been on road trips but never any lights.
The infotainment screen was black and not working at all so no back up camera. Also all the sensors warning you that you are getting to close to hitting something stopped working.
Had a knocking noise coming from the engine of our 2016 Honda Pilot. My fear of "rod knock" was a reality. Piazza Honda of Pottstown, PA confirmed that it was likely a failed rod bearing(s). Honda of America (corporate) is supposedly giving some good will money to help offset the cost. The dealership initially said that it would cost around $9000.00 to repair it (that's without "good will"). They have had our Pilot for over 2 weeks now and the new estimate today is $17,280.00. It's all over the internet that these Honda/Acura J-Series V6 engines are having premature rod bearing issues.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, or while the vehicle was cold started, the engine was running rough and making an abnormal clanking sound. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the connecting rod bearings were damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 165,383.
The connecting rod bearing seized up. Connecting rod broke and puncture through the engine housing. No recall notice was received from manufacturer about the issue. I was driving on the highway when my car made a sudden stop and smoke came from the hood along with a slight metal sound. There have been no professional inspector yet. My brother in law is a car mechanic and found the problem for us. When the car came to a stop there was no indicating of any signs. I did try to start the car again and that is when all the lights came one.
